Nozzle meter reading and tank dip software

PumpOS prices every litre from the nozzle meters and compares each tank's dip with the stock the books say should be there. A gap shows up the same day.

Book stock = opening + received - sold. All figures in litres.

Meters decide sales

At a pump the nozzle meter is the most reliable record of what left the tank. PumpOS uses it as the source of sales and takes test litres out, because test litres go back into the tank and are not sold.

Nozzle sales

Litres sold = closing meter - opening meter - test litres

  • Test litres are entered per nozzle and removed from sales.
  • Rollover: when a meter passes its maximum and starts again from zero, the litres are still counted correctly.
  • Nozzle tank change: if a nozzle is moved to feed from another tank, record the change and the books follow it.
  • Mid-day rate changes are priced correctly. See rate changes.

Tank dips and variance

Dipping a tank tells you what is physically there. Book stock tells you what should be there. The difference is the variance, and it is the earliest sign of stock loss.

Book stock and variance

Book stock = opening stock + received - sold

Variance = dip reading - book stock. A negative figure is a loss.

A loss of 60 litres in one day may be a dip reading error. The same loss every day is not. Seeing the variance daily lets you tell the difference. The guide on dip reading and stock loss explains the usual causes.

Stock position at a glance

The stock position report lists every tank with its current book stock, so you know what to order and when. Reports download as PDF or Excel.

Switching mid-month? We enter the previous day's meters and tank stock as opening balances, so you start from your real position.

Frequently asked questions

How does PumpOS handle test litres?

Test litres are entered for each nozzle and taken out of litres sold, so the sales figure reflects only fuel that was actually sold.

What happens when a nozzle meter rolls over?

Rollover is handled, so litres sold are counted correctly when a meter passes its maximum and restarts.

Does PumpOS read tank gauges automatically?

No. Dips are entered by your staff. PumpOS compares them with book stock and shows the variance.

Can I move a nozzle to another tank?

Yes. Record the nozzle tank change and sales are drawn from the right tank afterwards.
