The problem with a single daily rate
If a day's sales are multiplied by one rate, a change at noon makes the morning or the afternoon wrong. The money you counted will not match the report, and the gap has nothing to do with theft or error.
How it works in PumpOS
- Record the new rate for the fuel when it changes.
- Litres sold before the change are priced at the old rate.
- Litres sold after the change are priced at the new rate.
- The daily sales report totals both parts, per nozzle and per fuel.
| Period | Litres | Rate (Rs/litre) | Amount (Rs) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Before change | 2,000 | 275 | 550,000 |
| After change | 1,500 | 272 | 408,000 |
| Day total | 3,500 | 958,000 |
A single average rate would have given a different total, and your cash would not match. With separate periods, the difference is explained.
Why it matters for profit
Pump margins are small per litre, so a few rupees on a rate matter. Correct pricing of every litre means the daily report, the cash book and the profit and loss all agree. Read how to calculate petrol pump profit.
Rate changes work together with the daily sales report and your nozzle meters.
Rate changed at noon? Your books should not care.
We show how a mid-day rate change appears in the report.
